The Commodity Building in Frankfurt is the second tallest building in Germany, with a height of 265.5m and a total of 63 floors. It is located in the Friedrich-Ebert complex, next to the Frankfurt trade fair grounds. Messeturm was built in 1990 in the Art Deco style and was considered the tallest building in Europe at the time. This high-rise building was designed by German-American architect Helmut Jahn (Helmut Jahn).
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Frankfurt's landmark buildings will be remodeled in accordance with Jahn's plan and upgraded with the latest technology. The architect only envisaged some small but compelling changes for the conversion. There are four semicircular bays at the bottom of the building, the outer walls are made of curved laminated insulating glass, and the flat roof is made of insulating glass. The curved glass curtain wall measuring 2.8mx 17m high provides a spacious and bright lobby area, inviting you to linger. The design of the new coffee bar and new restaurant allows employees and visitors to enjoy indoor and outdoor environments.
This is the first time in the world that laminated curved glass of this size has been installed in a high-rise building. The laminated curved facade glass, which Frankfurt residents affectionately call the "pencil" of skyscrapers, has been artificially aged to minimize springback during the bending process. The hot dip furnace must be modified to accommodate the unusual size of the glass panels used in this process. The 36-story insulating glass unit on the exposed bay window glass roof with Double Vision printing completes the project and provides the best solar protection.
The tower facade is made of polished red granite. The addition of the impressive glass rotunda makes the tower a unique combination of traditional and modern elements.
